The 3rd TALASSA CoP took place from approx. 2pm to 6pm at the Hotel Regina Elena in Santa Margherita Ligure. Following the territorial event “Nature based solutions for climate change mitigation”: protecting biodiversity through cross-border projects, all project partners met to take stock of what has already been achieved and to plan future work.
Talassa is helping to improve biodiversity protection by systematizing data on target species and habitats of cross-border importance, implementing pilot mitigation actions and strengthening governance in protected marine sites. The aim is to improve the conservation status and protection of habitats and target species of cross-border importance in protected marine sites in the cooperation area through the joint definition of effective conservation measures implemented in a coordinated manner by regions, protected area managers and Natura 2000. The result will be the construction of a common pool of knowledge and the implementation of effective measures on a cross-border scale, a crucial aspect of governance.
As part of this project, the Institut de Recherche Septentrion Environnement will contribute its expertise to :
-Acquire knowledge of gorgonians and red coral along the French-Italian coastline.
-Examine the influence of multiple pressures (fishing, maritime traffic, underwater tourism) and their spatial variability on these bio-engineering organisms.
-Leverage collaboration between TALASSA partners to strengthen management and conservation measures.
