HABITATS THAT MATTER

HABITATS THAT MATTER

Every year, the goal is to highlight a coastal marine habitat in the Mediterranean, its importance, biodiversity, and fragility, through a day of citizen science involving several dive centers trained in citizen science protocols. The day features monitoring activities focused on the marine organisms that shape these habitats, a photo contest, and opportunities for sharing insights.

Find here the data collected during the first edition of “Habitats That Matter 2025,” which focused on coralligenous reefs and gorgonian populations in the face of marine heatwaves in the Mediterranean.

More than 85 divers and 8 diving clubs came together for a day to use the Coral Alert citizen science protocol to assess the health of gorgonians in the Calanques National Park.
