The 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference aims to take stock of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 dedicated to the ocean, and comes midway through the Decade of the Oceans launched by the UN Secretary-General.
The link between our actions and the action panels debated at the Conference is self-evident, since the Institute has made the conservation and sustainable management of coastal marine ecosystems a priority. As a result, we are committed to improving knowledge and the science-policy interface, sharing data, collaborating scientifically and pooling our thoughts with a view to providing robust, effective science that can be translated into management, particularly on the regional scale of the Mediterranean basin.
We were present at the UNOC:
- At the One Ocean Congress, where one of our scientific project managers presented a scientific poster on the study of the health of red gorgonian (Paramuricea clavata) populations in the upper mesophotic zone of the French Mediterranean coast.
- At the espace La Baleine for a conference on “diving in the service of science” alongside Under The Pole and at the South Pavillon for the Mediterranea for a conference on “knowledge and its dissemination as a factor of commitment in favor of a territory.” The “Management and Protection of Marine and Coastal Environments” bachelor’s degree was also presented by a teacher and former students.
- At the UN events, including Mediterranean Day.
