Posidonia meadows, coralligenous formations, rocky drop-offs, underwater caves, muddy or sandy plains – the small seabeds of the Parc national des Calanques form a highly diversified mosaic of natural habitats. Rich in color, relief and texture, these underwater landscapes, located between 0 and 40 meters, are home to exceptional biological diversity and support numerous human activities (diving, fishing, yachting…). However, these small seabeds are subject to high levels of pressure.
The Parc National des Calanques and Septentrion Environnement are joining forces to restore the National Park’s precious organisms and ecosystems: red coral, red gorgonians, Posidonia herbaria.
The first phase of this project’s action plan focuses on three areas:
- Restoring environments degraded by ghost nets, macro-waste and dead bodies;
- Reducing the impact of scuba diving on coral and shallow waters;
- Setting up a children’s reserve in the Calanque du Mugel.
Mission Nature is a scratch-off game sold for 3 euros at all Française des Jeux sales outlets and also available online. Of these 3 euros, 43 cents are donated to the Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB) to finance projects to restore biodiversity in the regions, including our project to restore shallow coastal waters.
