EDUCATION

A rich fall season of training courses ahead!

That’s it! Students enrolled in vocational baccalaureate and BTS programs at Lycée des Calanques and CFPPA Valabre, in collaboration with Septentrion Environnement, have started their academic year. It’s also the start of the year for nine new students enrolled in the Bachelor’s degree program in Marine and Coastal Environment Management and Protection.

This highly practical program includes periods spent in companies alternating with periods at the training center, where students benefit from classroom and field teaching. The aim of this teaching is to equip students with a wide range of tools and methods for studying, monitoring, and managing natural marine environments in response to local issues.

Photogrammetry, scientific and professional diving (CAH1B), and underwater drone piloting (ROV) are just a few examples of the practical skills and professional certifications acquired during this program, combined with related scientific knowledge of nature.

From the very first days, students dive right into the subject with:

– a focus on the ecology of coastal socio-ecosystems,

– a course on project planning and experimental design, laying the foundations for a rigorous and innovative approach to coastal environment management,

– a walking tour of the coastline to discover the halophilic zone and the ecological issues associated with it.

– a sea trip to the Calanque de Saint Estève on the Île du Frioul: equipped with fins, masks, snorkels, and predictive mapping, students practiced identifying the biocoenoses and associated species of these shallow coastal waters.

The start of the academic year isn’t just happening at Campus Nature Provence! Students enrolled in the Master 2 Marine Sciences program, specializing in Biological Oceanography and Marine Ecology (OBEM) at Aix-Marseille University – OSU PYTHEAS, have also returned to class. The OBEM 303 “Analysis of Benthic Communities” course, co-taught by Septentrion Environnement, allows students to learn how to identify Mediterranean coastal benthic communities and to tackle the various phases of a scientific study, whether in the field or in data analysis.
