FIELD MISSION

Back in Cameroon to accompany the country’s first scientific diving course.

Two intense weeks, full of encounters, learning and emotions alongside two Cameroonian NGOs, @amco_siren and @tube_awu, who work tirelessly to protect the coastline and the communities that depend on it. Their work is essential: fighting illegal fishing, protecting marine species, raising awareness and directly involving local populations. Septentrion Environnement, as part of the ProBioDev program of the iUCN french comitee, is partnering these NGOs in the REPAMAC project, aimed at strengthening the resilience of the Manyangue Na Elombo Marine Park.

As part of this project, Septentrion Environnement joined its partners on site in Limbe to support the country’s very first scientific diving training course, aimed at professionals and members of local communities who would become biologist divers. A key step towards sustainable conservation, rooted in local knowledge and supported by those who live in daily contact with the ocean. The training also included an apprenticeship in the scientific approach, with elements of both ecological theory and experimental design.

We were deeply inspired by the enthusiasm, energy and commitment of the participants. It’s these projects, driven by strong human bonds, that give meaning to our actions.

A huge congratulations to Carla, head of our environmental diving school, whose quiet strength and constant good humor were the pillars of this not always simple mission – between logistical challenges, capricious equipment and unforeseen events in the field. And a huge thank you to our hard-working volunteers, Nizaar and Damien, for their generosity and kindness.
